Undocumented Student Action Week 2021

Orange Coast College is participating in the statewide “Undocumented Student Action Week” is in the process of running from Oct. 18-22 to show its solidarity with undocumented students at OCC and across California.

“This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Assembly Bill 540, the landmark legislation that opened the doors of higher education to thousands of undocumented students by removing the burden of out-of-state tuition,” said a press release from the California Community Chancellor’s Office.

The CCC Chancellor's office will be hosting a series of events commemorating the action week from 1- 2 p.m. daily. Students must register for the webinars to attend the events. On Oct. 21, there will be a discussion on how to effectively use data to ensure equitable access to resources for undocumented students.

Finally to end the week, on Oct. 22 undocumented students and their allies will learn about the rights held by undocumented students and the resources available in the state to help them in their educational journey.

In addition to these events, OCC’s Student Equity Office is holding an event for OCC UnDocuScholars on Oct. 20 from 3-4p.m. on Zoom titled “Exploring Undocumented + Queer Identities in Media.” In this event, attendants will be viewing a YouTube series called “Undocutales” as well as news clips before discussing the intersections of “UndocuoQueer” identities.

For those unable to attend these events, the Student Equity Office has provided other previously recorded sessions that can be viewed at any time.

Anyone interested in more information and year-round aid for undocumented students can check out OCC’s UnDocuScholar’s resource hub.
