With Thanksgiving around the corner, Orange County food shelters have stepped up to ensure no one goes hungry this holiday season.
Listed below are local shelters providing special Thanksgiving meals where people are encouraged to volunteer, donate or partake in the free food program.
OC Rescue Mission
1 Hope Drive, Tustin
The Orange County Rescue Mission is a non-profit organization that focuses providing help to people in need. They provide a plethora of services such as operating as a food bank or providing shelter. The OC Rescue Mission is open all day on Nov. 25 and will be serving traditional Thanksgiving meals including turkey, green beans and stuffing.
OC Rescue Mission is accepting food donations. Its location is open for drop-off donations from 8am-5pm. OC Rescue Mission also accepts monetary donations. By donating just $1.34 you can give a free meal to those in need.
Volunteers are encouraged to participate as Thanksgiving is its busiest day of the year.
Someone Cares Kitchen
720 W 19th St, Costa Mesa
Someone Cares Kitchen in Costa Mesa invites those in need to celebrate Thanksgiving with them from 12 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Some Cares Kitchen is open to monetary donations. A donation as small as $1.33 can pay for a meal.
2701 Fairview Rd, Costa Mesa
OCC’s own food bank, Pirates’ Cove is providing Thanksgiving groceries or holiday pre-cooked meals for students on Nov. 23. Those interested can either RSVP for a grocery box containing turkey, pie, produce and a non-perishable holiday goods, or RSVP for a holiday pre-cooked meal.
Pirates Cove will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Garcia’s South of the Border Cantina and Grill
136 W Commonwealth Ave, Fullerton
While not a traditional food bank, Garcia’s South of the Border Cantina Restaurant provides a free Thanksgiving meal to those in need. This year, restaurant owner Frank Garcia partnered with Fullerton Ford Dealership owner Abraham Razick to feed an estimated 5,000 guests.
The event will be hosted on Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers are encouraged to participate. To find more information on volunteering, contact Kelly Halbeisen at (760) 275-4426.
