Monica Czapla, a 28-year-old nutrition major, may love to curl up with a great book but she also enjoys a good fight. Her fix for a good brawl is met by watching hockey.
“I love the fights,” she said. “It’s very fast paced—I don’t like watching sports, but (hockey) just keeps your attention all the time.”
Besides watching hockey, Czapla spends a lot of time with her husband, who happens to be a Polish chiropractor, and her friends. They all get together once a week to have dinner, Czapla said.
“We’re a pretty close-knit group,” she said.
Czapla mentioned her love for reading. She said she likes to read books about random things like people’s faces and books from around the world. Her favorite book is “A Million Little Pieces,” by James Frey. The book remains Czapla’s favorite despite the fact Frey was condemned by Oprah Winfrey for embellishing facts in his book.
“That’s part of why I liked it,” she said.
Czapla has an adventurous side as well.
Last year, she propelled 150 feet in the air by zip-lining into a cave in Mexico.
“I was so scared—so scared,” she said. “I went first because I knew if I didn’t go first I wouldn’t go at all.”
