Wallet with money

Orange Coast College raised over $145,000 from more than 400 individual gifts to the college based on preliminary reports provided by OCC Foundation Director Doug Bennett during Giving Tuesday this week.

Giving Tuesday is an international day of charity celebrated after Thanksgiving.

The donations collected are matched by the Foundation to a certain dollar amount in honor of the charitable holiday.

OCC can to match up to $102,000, Bennett said.

The matching limit can be raised to have the Foundation match every dollar raised. This scenario happened last year.

In 2017, OCC exceeded the original match cap of $50,000. Bennett requested almost $30,000 more to be donated to the college which was unanimously approved.

Giving Tuesday was celebrated worldwide with hundreds of organizations involved.

Facebook reported it was involved with the largest single-day charity donation raised by a social media platform in history.

Facebook users raised over $125 million on Tuesday, nearly tripling last year’s amount of $45 million.

Donations are accepted to OCC year around. For more information about Giving Tuesday and making donations to OCC, contact Doug Bennett at dbennett@cccd.edu.
