Tailgate thief

A victim reported that the tailgate was stolen off of his 2013 Toyota Tacoma in the Adams Avenue Parking Lot on Feb. 7, according to Chief of Campus Safety Jim Rudy.

The victim parked his vehicle at 2 p.m. When he came back at 6:50 p.m., he noticed his tailgate was removed. No activity was found on recorded video footage from cameras on the building, Rudy said. The report is still outstanding.

Dismount here

A male skateboarder fell off his skateboard and injured himself Feb. 8 near Writers Row at 8:45 a.m. Campus Safety was dispatched to the Student Health Center at 9 a.m., Rudy said.

The male student stated he was riding his skateboard near Pirates’ Cove. He said his skateboard caught on wood debris, causing him to lunge forward and use his hands to brace himself from falling. His knee scraped the ground. He refused paramedics and requested bandages.

The area is a dismount zone and the student shouldn’t have been riding there, Rudy said.

Hit and help

A female student driving on Merrimac Way reportedly hit another female student in the crosswalk at Fairview Road Wednesday at 6:10 p.m.

According to Rudy, the suspect drove the victim to Watson Hall and reported the incident to Campus Safety, which reported it to the Costa Mesa Police Department and Fire Department. She was transported to Hoag Hospital.

Basketball pains

A female basketball player reported having chest pains on Feb. 12 at 8:40 p.m. in Orange Coast College’s Basil H. Peterson Gymnasium during a basketball game.

The Costa Mesa Fire Department responded to the call and it was determined to be a muscle related injury. The victim was released to her next of kin, Rudy said.
